이 게임 시리즈의 최대 특징은 무한한 자유도로, 게임의 스토리가 없다. 그냥 판타지 세상에서 살면서 돌아다니는 게 유일한 목적이자 플레이 방법이다. 물론 엔딩이 존재하긴 하지만 보지 않아도 큰 문제는 없다. 삶과 모험 자체가 목적인 게임으로 일본 RPG 게임들 중에서는 보기 드물게 자유도를 추구하는 게임이다.
